Break out the champagne glasses folks, but not you Frank! Showtime’s Shameless has been renewed for a second season! I couldn’t be more excited right now. Here’s part of the press release via TV Guide.

“The viewer loyalty and critical acclaim that has met both Shameless and Episodes since their January debuts makes it clear that these two brash and sophisticated series are burgeoning hits,” David Nevins, president of the premium cable channel, said in a statement.

Last night’s episode of Shameless was my favorite so far this season. The Gallagher family is not afraid to do whatever necessary to make ends meet. Also, they’re dedicated friends too. So what if Fi pissed for pasta, they hired a groper priest for Veronica and Kevin’s wedding, and faked it all for a dream house. Frank’s presence in this episode was delightful and not over done which I like. The stars for me were Shanola Hampton and Emmy Rossum. They have such a bond and are really dedicated to their friendship. It plays out so well on screen. Debbie played by Emma Rose Kenney continues to shine and I can see why she was chosen for the part. Lip and Ian’s brotherhood is also pleasing to watch. I hope Ian realizes that he deserves better than a married man who didn’t have the decency to take him somewhere other than his room filled with family sentiments (framed boy scout photo of sons). Overall, the episode gets 4.5/5. I hope it gets renewed for another season. What did you think of “Three Boys”?

Despite facing some seriously tough competition – the Golden Globes, the AFC Championship, SAG Awards, NFL Pro Bowl and in the next two weeks the Superbowl and the Grammys… To-date, SHAMELESS is SHOWTIME’s best performing freshman drama (with four weeks of total data, outpacing DEXTER, DEAD LIKE ME, THE TUDORS and THE L WORD’s freshman seasons).

Sunday Night’s episode delivered 1.45 million total viewers, with 1.11 million viewers at 10 p.m. and an additional 345,000 viewers at 11 p.m. (As a reminder, the show premiered to 982,000 total viewers at 10 p.m. and 1.3 million viewers for the night on January 9).

The audience composition for SHAMELESS is shifting, posting significant gains with young adults. The fourth episode was up 53% among adults 18-34, up 69% in women 18-34 and up 45% in men 18-34 vs. the 10 p.m. premiere on January 9.

Across all platforms (including On Demand, replays and DVR) to-date, SHAMELESS has delivered over 3.6 million viewers for its premiere episode. This is the best debut week for a SHOWTIME freshman drama.

Last week, Debbie’s world took a steeper downfall when they had to return faux Aunt Ginger to the home. Everyone else used Aunt Ginger as a prop to help keep the family out of trouble, but Debbie formed an emotional attachment, one she was using to fill a void.

This week, while at a birthday party, she watches a family playing together and gets jealous that they have parents who take care of them and she has absentee ones. For some reason, Debbie thinks that stealing a baby will make it all better.

Collider chatted with Emmy Rossum about Shameless.

Will there ever be an explanation about the child of another race?

ROSSUM: I think it’s cool that nobody in the family really cares. They are just a family and they love each other, and it doesn’t really matter if they share 100% of the genetic material with each other. They are in it to live and love each other, and take care of each other. A good person steps up to the plate and says, “This is a child, and I need to take care of this child,” and then does it.

How do you like working in Chicago?

ROSSUM: I like it. I don’t mind it. We shoot a lot outside in Chicago too, so it just gives that real vibe of the grittiness of the area.

Have you seen the British version of the show?

ROSSUM: No. In fact, when I got my test deal, our director, Mark Mylod, who is partners with Paul Abbott who did the original series, said, “Don’t watch any of it. Just go onto YouTube and watch the sex scene in the kitchen on mute, so you have an idea of how much you’ll be showing, but you don’t want to be influenced by any delivery or anything.” So, that’s all I’ve seen.

The lovely Shanola Hampton who plays sassy Veronica on Shameless chatted with Examiner (1/7/2011).

What do you enjoy most about playing Veronica?
Shanola-What I really like about her is even though she’s sassy, she’s kind of a rock that holds it all together. And I really like that she can come in and be funny, but she’s still very much the voice of reason. When Fiona needs something or someone to talk to, she’s there. And when they need someone to devise a plan to get out of whatever situation the Gallaghers may be in, she’s there to give aid. I was really drawn to how loving she was. The whole show really comes back to love. I was really drawn to the love that Veronica has for the Gallaghers.

Eric from IGN recently caught up with Emmy at Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour 2011.

IGN: So was there any hesitation with the sexuality and the nudity?

Rossum: No, not at all. I mean, I’d never done it before, so for the first episode, I was very nervous. But showing these kinds of characters… People expose so much of their inner workings and their emotional life in sexual experiences that I felt like it would be very telling to show the way she has sex. You know, you can tell anything from anyone. The way you eat or the way you walk… the way you have sex… So I really wanted to show that. So yeah, the first time that we did that in the first episode, I had a few beers. But now it’s funny. We’re in our eleventh episode and it’s like I’m totally uninhibited. And I only noticed it because there was another actress who was in state of undress for the first time on our set [recently] and she was like, “You’re just so comfortable with yourself. How do you just take your clothes off like that?” And I’d never thought about myself like that before until someone said that to me. And I was like, “Yeah, I am comfortable now! Good for me!” [Laughs] I was like, “Take off your clothes! This is great!” It was so bizarre.
